I have been going through a lot as my perimenopause started during Covid and as I felt that I had to vaccinate myself to serve the greater good it completely and utterly messed up my hormones. In the end it was so bad that I had to go to hospital to stop all the heavy bleeding and the pain. I don’t really want to go to deep into this as I find this whole journey so personal and I notice we all go through perimenopause and menopause in a complete different way. I just want to recommend these items as they are quite harmless and they help me and I hope they can help you.
Hormonal Balance Pack by Insentials. I’ve been taking these supplements daily for over a year now and had a pauze of two months after six months to see if there was a difference and oh boy there was. I feel much fitter and calmer, mostly calmer. I have a very energetic husband with a lot of mood swings and with this balance pack I can deal with the stress and the drama. I have now subscribed and I get my supplements and vitamins in the mail and as a welcome present you get the glass apothecary bottles.
Chamomile Flowers by Teapigs. Before I go to bed I drink a glass of chamomile tea with even more supplements (see 6) If I don’t do this I wake up in the middle of the night and start to make to do lists and get incredible restless. This combo helps me to sleep calmly through the night.
Quiet 2 Plus by Loop Earplugs. Unfortunately we have been living next-door to a build site for the past two years as our new neighbours decided to built a castle. The builders often start at 6:30 in the morning and it starts with slamming van doors, turning up the music volume (under my bedroom window) and a lot of shouting, singing along and machinery noice. This will last throughout the day and as I mostly work from home I have to deal with it as there’s no reasoning with these people. The Quiet 2 Plus earplugs by Loop help during the mornings and during the day when it’s too much and I want to cry and throw the radio in the neighbours new pool.
Sleeping Mask how to make one yourself.
Plattan 2 by Urbanears. These headphones are the best. They look cool, come in lovely colours and don’t break the bank. I garden with them (without hearing all the builders noice) and clean the house, they even block the hoover noice. I listen to podcasts and books and I can be in my own calm world and listen to the stuff I want to listen to. It really helps with breaking down, trust me.
Daily Doses (Nachtrust & Fitheid) by Vitaminstore. This is brilliant and helps me through the night as it comes in little daily bags so you know exactly what to take. One bag contains one capsule of magnesium, one capsule of valerian and one capsule of ashwagandha.
A footnote on taking daily supplements
Give it 3 months before you notice changes as the supplements will not take effect day 1. You really need to consistently take them daily for a longer period to notice the effect.
Another tip for Apple iPhone users
Under health (heart icon) you can track your cycle which has been really helpful for me. You can also add the days when you are spotting and you can add symptoms and use period predictions. You can download all the stats in PDF files and share them with your GP and gynaecologist. It’s free!
A very helpful podcast to listen to
I wan to end by saying that you are not alone. Talk about it! I’ve noticed that once you start to talk about menopause with other women (and men) they completely open up as we all want to talk about it. I also apologise to my husband each time when I have been behaving badly. I explain how I felt to him and that I wasn't under control of my emotions and behaviour but that I was aware of it. He really appreciates that and it makes it all so much easier for me.
Hopefully we go through this shit show in the end.
Lots of love, Yvonne
Products Part One
Last Monday we’ve started a new client decorating project and it’s costing all our muscles and time, hence the lack of updates this week and for that my sincere apologies. Most of the time my life isn’t very predictable and what seemed like a “oh we’ll do that in no-time job” ends up in something massive. It also ended up with my hair and skin covered i…
