The Dahlia Garden

last winter we changed the layout of our garden. We used to have a 1250 m² flat plot with trees and hedges but without any plants as the previous owners only used the garden as a poo pit for their dogs. Over the years we’ve planted a total of 13 trees and quite a few perennials. I work with a lot of annual plants like tulips in spring and dahlias in summer. I jump start the dahlias indoors in March and plant them out late May.

Because summer has been so wet and dark in my neck of the woods the dahlias are only blooming as of last week. Dahlias require full sun to bloom, at least 8 hours a day and they also need a lot of cutting. There were beautiful large plants but without any flowers. Let's hope we get to enjoy them throughout October or even November.

Here’s a list of the dahlias in my garden:

If you’d like to know more about how we build the greenhouse you can check out the ‘greenhouse’ highlight on my Instagram stories.

Love, Yvonne
