It’s cold right? Maybe not when you are on the other side of the world, but at my end it’s bitterly cold. I stay home instead and bring you super easy and fast to make chunky mittens. This is one I dug up for you from the archives but revised them.
Keep warm xox
You need these stitches:
- CH (chain)
- DC (double crochet)
- SC (single crochet
- DC2TOG (double crochet two together)
- Magic ring
- SL (slip stitch)

1. Thumb Bit (use a 4.5 mm hook)
Foundation ring:
Start with a magic ring, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc) dc 7 (total of 8 dc) into the ring
Row 1-4:
ch 3 (counts as 1 dc) dc 1 all around* repeat.
2. Hand Top Bit (use a 4.5 mm hook)
Foundation ring:
Start with a magic ring, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc) dc 7 (total of 8 dc) into the ring
Row 1:
ch 3 (counts as 1 dc) dc 1 in same ch, dc 2 in each ch around (total of 16 dc)
Row 2:
ch 3 (counts as 1 dc) dc 1 in same ch,* dc 1 in next ch, dc 2 in next ch* repeat
Row 3-10:
ch 3 (counts as 1 dc) dc 1 all around (swap colours after each row to form stripes)
3. Putting it together (use a 4.5 mm hook)
With a needle attach thumb and top bit using up 4 chains (4 stitches)

4. And the rest (use a 4.5 mm hook)
Row 1-3:
ch 3 (counts as 1 dc) dc 1 all around
Row 4:
ch 3 (counts as 1 dc) dc until you reach the middle of the thumb bit then dc2tog 4 x dc until end
Row 5:
ch 3 (counts as 1 dc) dc until you reach the 2nd dc2tog, dc2tog 2 x dc until end. Bind off
5. Ribbing Bit (use a 4 mm hook)
Row 1:
ch 22, 1 sc in the back bit of the second ch from the hook, 1 sc into the remaining ch, turn.
Row 2:
ch 1 (this is a turning ch, doesn’t count as a stitch), 1 sc into each back bit ch.
Repeat row 2 until you have 12-14 ribs.
Attach the ribbing to the mitten using a sc.

Don’t forget to make a left and a right hand. A beginners mistake is to actually make two left hand mittens when you are right handed or two right hand mittens when you are left handed. It’s just a tip!
I used Plump DK from Mrs. Moon in Lemon Curd, Bubblegum, Fondant Fancy and Pavlova.
