Hello I'm back from my work/play trip to London with a new feature for my blog.
As I'm quite addicted to films and books I thought it would be a fun idea to share with you what I've seen and read each month and what I think you should see and read.
Let us call it "The A list" as in; "a book to read, a film to see and so on". I'm not going too much into detail so trust me, if books and films made it up here I've seen and read them personally and I'm hysterically lyrically about them.
After seeing your post for 'One Day' I watched the trailer on YouTube. Most of the commenters recommeded reading the book, which I did. Loved the book, hopefully I enjoy the dvd as much. Thank you so much for your 'A List'.
I do something a little similar to your new post series but on fridays and I am so glad to have walked into your neck of the woods here! I'm with Elizabeth above, I am reading Sarah's key, its very good, I watched the movie first and it was good as well.
Yvonne, have you read Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay. Confronting but beautiful. I couldn't put it down. The characters will remain with me for a long time. x
Hi,
I decided to nominate you for the versatile blog award, I hope you will accept, but if you don't or won't, never mind! You can see all the details on my blog! Amelita
Oh, this is a great feature. I've got 3 new things on my Amazon wishlist now! :)
We have lots and lots of cook books and when my husband showed an interest in cooking after we got married last year, I bought him What to cook and how to cook it (http://www.amazon.co.uk/What-Cook-How-Jane-Hornby/dp/071485901X) based on the reviews and the fact I loved the Jane Hornby recipes I'd tried on the BBC Good Food website. It's a gorgeous book with loads of pictures and easy instructions so it's perfect for beginners but I also use it often. It's the only book I feel confident about recommending - we've bought it for 4 family members/friends since we got ours.
Mindy Kaling's book is truly one of the funniest things I've ever read. I got a slew of strange looks from people when I would laugh out loud while reading it! As for recommendations, I just finished "The Rain Before It Falls" by Jonathan Coe. It really pulled me into the story which moves from contemporary London to WWII-era English countryside and the children who were sent to live with families there to escape the danger in the cities. I started "Little Bee" by Christopher Cleave just today, but it has already had me getting teary-eyed and clenching my fists in shock. I can already tell that I'll be sad when I'm finished with it!
Hi - I have read One Day and have just this afternoon picked up the DVD to watch tonight while my husband is out with some work friends so I am going to go and cook myself something nice to eat while watching it and then i'm going to start on the coconut ice cream. :o) Hopefully after reading the book first I won't be disappointed, although i've heard it is quite different so we'll see!
Have a lovely weekend and I love this new featur-ette.

I have just discovered your blog a week ago and I'm so glad I did. It's such a 'peaceful' place. I just love books and like so many others I have a tendency to read more of the same... So I'm just delighted to see your A-list. I hope you had a great trip to London. Thank you for a fantastic blog.
All the best to you.
I've already bought Veg Everyday because I've spotted it on one of your bookshelves - it's great indeed. Plus I am a vegetarian, so it's extremely comforting being able to cook every single recipe from it.

One Day.... I saw it in a cinema in CapeTown (during my vacation) and I cried.... and all the women around me too!
Great post! And.... Love your blog!
Happy Weekend!
Lovely idea. I've spent the past week browsing my Mum's copy of the Veg book and think I may have to buy one myself - great recipes.
Thank you for the tips! Have a nice weekend!

That's a great idea, Yvonne. I really like it. I'll try and think up some suggestions, as well. Happy weekend.
