Just before Christmas 2010 Tanya Whelan of Grand Revival Design contacted me if I was willing to help photograph and style her first sewing book Sew What You Love and also if she could use my home as a set for her book. I've known Tanya for years through blogging and as I love her designs and aesthetic I replied with a firm yes. Tanya and her family are American expats living in the south of Belgium so a 2 hour trip to my home (twice) was actually doable and fun as we could meet.
Working with Tanya is a delight as we share the same taste and ideas. Things moved fast and swiftly and with lots of fun. She has a great eye for beautiful things, she works hard and is a total no-bullshit person. I feel very privileged to work and be friends with someone like her.
After months of waiting (on my side, while Tanya did the hard work) I finally have a copy of her beautiful book in my hands, I love it and I know you'll love it too. It's perfect for beginners as the instructions are so well written and so clear, you can't go wrong. The projects in Sew What You Love are very diverse so there's something there for everyone. As an extra bonus you'll recognize a lot of my home in this book.
I'm allowed to give a signed copy (by Tanya and yours truly) to one of you. And a second price of a free downloadable Grand Revival Design pattern. All you have to do is leave a comment on my blog and next Thursday, January 19th) I'll draw the winners.
If you go over to Tanya's blog you'll find an interview with me and other great giveaways.
Thanks for participating xox

I am a first-time mom and have suddenly become obsessed with being creative. My obsession started sometime in December 2011. I expressed an interest in sewing and she gave me her old sewing machine. Then I decided to search the Internet to look for DIY tutorials. After hours and hours of searching I came upon Tanya Whelan's blog and instantly loved it. Fell in love with all her fabrics. So much so, that I have been searching my local area for her fabric...Lucky for me, I found a few of her fabrics and they are as adorable as the pictures and oh so soft! I just want to make fun stuff for my friends and family! I would really love to win Tanya Whelan's book...keeping my fingers crossed!! :-)
This looks like a fantastic book and I would love to win it! I'm snowed in today and dreaming of all the wonderful goodies I could be sewing!
Oh, I could put that book to good use!
I have just started sewing so this would be great!
Fingers crossed x
Ik zou graag een kopie van het boek winnen om (onder andere) zo'n mooie poef te maken!
Would be such a treat to win!
Yeahhh! Love this book... Very nice give away!!!!
Hello Yvonne,
as mentioned on your blog recently I love all Tanya Whelan's fabrics - and I'm excited about her new book too!
Thanks for the chance to win it :)
best wishes,
Duni
Greetings from Sunny Scotland - I love Yvestown and Tanya - I even have the same tablecloth you have shown in your pic. I inherited a sewing machine and have bought some fabric so winning this book would be fab! P.S. your blog brightens up my day (I also have your yearbook which I would recommend to all yvestown lovers) x
That book looks great! Really eyecandy with sewing projects+your house. What I also like is that it has metallic spiral (wire-o? sorry don't know how to say it in english) which makes it easier when you are working on a project.
Terrific giveaway!
Lovely book and fantastic location for the photos! I adore your style and color palette.
Great idea, I'd love to win this beautiful book. And thank you for the painting tips too. xx :)
Cute bag on the cover of the book! After reading your blog for over a year, it would be lovely to see a book photographed there. The light of your style is refreshing in our long, cold, Vermont winters!!
Looks like a great book- I have it on hold at library, but already four people are in front of me.
I recently dusted off my sewing machine and started again with very simple things (lavendar bags!). I was a better sewer as a child so I hope I can pick it up again . . . this looks like a beautiful book to inspire me. Along with your beautiful blog. Thanks Yvonne for not giving it up.
Lovely colours, beautiful design, inspiring words. Well done.
I'd love the chance to win this gorgeous book. Thank you!
What a treat that book would be! Real "eye candy".
What a beautiful book!! I would love to win, and become inspired to do some sewing.
This would make such a great gift for my daughter. She's in college and loves to sew for herself and for friends.
It looks great, i hope getting my copie soon
What a lovely book! And what a perfect setting for the photos. Genius collaboration.
Thanks for the opportunity Yvonne and Tanya.
It looks like a wonderful book with such bright designs and colours.

Looks like a fabulous book! I have been wanting to sew more in the new year, and this would be wonderful inspiration!
This book looks like great inspiration!
Thanks for continuing your blog, Yvonne. I had a bit of a shock when I saw everything was gone a couple weeks ago!
Great blog and very nice of you to do a give away! Glad I scrolled down from the post above it, about the painting - we are still renovating. (Friends are allready joking that they are going to sign us up for "Help mijn man is een klusser" - but I'm just as terrible.)
One of my new years resolutions is to finally make use of the sewing machine, that means learn how it works and then learn how to sew. But where to start? Maybe here?
Anyway, thanks for hosting this give away!
What a great giveaway! Would love to win it and start sewing!
Beautiful blogs from both of you! Made my way over from the Amazon store where I found the book originally. Thanks for hosting a give-away!

I've been interested to learn sewing lately. Never though that sew & diy can be such fun & fullfiling. In 2012 I'll have to be more open to new "lessons" and winning this book will be such a great start. Btw I'm from Jakarta, is it ok for non-europe resident to entry this give away?
Love your house, it's so light yet charming.
I was just googling looking for patterns that are easy to do since I am returning to sewing again after dabbling some years ago when I came across your blog. I am a stay at home mum and 3 friends and I have just started up our own little sewing group to put a bit of creativity and craft in back in our lives. I have to say I love sewing more than I ever thought or ever had before. It adds a sparkle and anticipation to my life I'd forgotten about as I had my 2 beautiful but challenging boys. Thanks for the giveaway and I admire your creativity and energy!
The book looks absolutely wonderful, thank you so much for the giveaway.

Dear Yvonne, where to start, yes I would love to win, but firm competition too (210 comments already!). I came accross your blog in Mollie Makes, as a Dutch person living in Ireland(20 years.) It has been lovely to come accross something so beautiful and bright and a bit of Holland in there too.
Thankfully I read through all your old entries, before you changed the blog, it was a bit of a shock as I had just only discovered the blog and had hoped to read back through some things. But I recognise the desire for a clean up and fresh start, and have enjoyed returning to your blog.
I have just finished a course 'how to use your sewing machine' in my local community college (Crumlin, Dublin) and have managed one pillowcase, and two dresses for wooden spoon dolls. I have borrowed every book in the local library but would love some more updated, beautiful photographed inspiration! Mirjam

Quite a while back I sewed a big bag from one of her patterns and ever since it's been the first bag I pick up whenever I need to carry around a craft project. The construction is so clever!

. . . per your answer to the best gardening tip:
"Don't wear gloves, feel the dirt."
While I am not (nor will ever be) the proper gardener that you are, how preciously important your answer to this darling woman named Tanya's question was!
.... "Feel the dirt!"
Oh! Yvonne!
It's nature's idea of velvet, isn't it?!!
... and the world seems to be at peace during the few moments that one scoops, scoots, or holds nature's powdered prize - in, on, over over ... our
fingertips and palms.
As you say (again) .... "Don't wear gloves, feel the dirt."
Indeed!
Dirt.... really, nature's fabric. To wear gloves in it's presence is cheating ourself in the same way that it might be to wear sunglasses in the presence of the most special of threaded fabric.
Either unfortunate act would be the ultimate 'no-no' ... if one's senses care to embrace the gifts that our senses so generously offer to us.
The beauty of dirt in the hand far surpasses the beauty of a diamond on the hand.
Xo
I'd like to be in the running for that beautiful book :)

Exquisite. Life is beautiful. Hope Boo managed to sneak onto at least one page!
I love Tanya's fabrics and patterns. The book looks fabulous. I'd love to make some of the lovely items. I have just discovered your blog which is so inspirational. I'm just sorry I didn't find it sooner!
Dearest Yvonne,
I don't sew and although I so (pardon the pun there) want a sewing machine, it would only sit there on a beloved table like a glorified knick knack (although lovingly smiled at hourly) - - - so . . . (and pardon the unavoidable pun for the 2nd time) . . . if I should win this precious book, please pull another name in honor of it going to a true sewer.
I merely wanted to tell you in this comment box here, that I fell off of my chair laughing at your reference to the book author 'Tanya' being a 'no-bullshiter'.
Yvonne, how I daily adore you so! And obviously I would adore your friend Tanya as well. My favorite people in all of the world are the beautiful hearted people whom also happen to be no-bullshitters at the same time. It's an art - that mix! And you've got it down pat!
You Rock, Sizzle and Pop - year after year!
2,012 wishes of sheer happiness and *perfect health* to you, your Bo and your Boo!
Muah!
p.s. . . Thank you for sharing more home photos as of late.
How your clever talents never fail to warm the senses, Yvonne. . . tender sighs.
I just discovered your sweet little blog, and lucky I did, I love it.
Please count me in for this delightful give-away. x

Looks like a great book - with plenty of good ideas I could use!
Have been enjoying the sneak peeks of this book on Tanya's blog. I think it would be the perfect gift for my God-daughter's birthday (and also for me!). Still loving the blog, Yvonne: yours was the first one I read and I always look forward to you posting x
How thoughtful of you to lend your beautiful home to such a talented seamstress. I am sure the book looks fabulous!
Ohh, I'd love to win a copy! I've just started sewing, and both the projects and your home in the background look dreamy, so I'd probably be the happiest girl on earth! :D
Oh please please let me be a lucky winner for once.
I am loving your new blog just as much as the old one. I hope you'll give us the recipes for your diet soups again. I'm on a diet now and need them!
