My Birds

I have finally finished the bird mobile I intended to make last July ... JULY!!! Time sure travels fast.

You can find the pattern for the birds at Spool. They also have a fun flickr group where you can see other bird mobiles.

Crochet

Because I wasn't able to do any sewing for the past six months I started crocheting like mad. It's such a good thing to do while you do another thing. I'm all about multitasking. I don't like to be 'just' on the phone chatting. In a regular phone conversation of approximate an hour I have done the washing up, laundry folding and a sanitary stop (cleaned that up a bit) or I have painted one door or crocheted one pillow. I also crochet while I watch television because that's one activity that's so useless, sitting down on the sofa watching something. The amount of work I can singly process watching television is amazing.

For the past six months I have been crocheting afghans (I haven't finished) and these pillows.

Crochet Pillows

They've become my absolute favorite thing to crochet as I can mix all kind of colors and because they are done in no time. They've actually become an addiction and most of my friends own one or two because I just kept making them, and still do. So I've decided to sell some in my abandoned Etsy shop.

Crochet Pillows

I'll be adding 7 or 8 pillows on Tuesday April 21st to the Esty shop.

My other shop, the bookshop, is back to cheaper prices. I've been begging Paumes to let me decide my own retail price and not use the one that most shops are using. And they are allowing me to set my own price again - yay!! To celebrate this fantastic news (because I was about to close shop) I give all readers of my blog a 5% discount. Use code sfkitchens in the shopping basket.

On your way out don't forget to order the fabulous new book San Francisco Kitchens.

The Aftermath

Easter was good. Now I need to get on with some projects.

* I'm crocheting and sewing again.
* I'm in contact with Paumes to get the book prices down.
* I'm exercising.
* I'm up way past my bedtime.

I hope your Easter was good too.

Goodnight xox

Easter, honestly?

It's good to have my mum over as she reminds me of all the holidays where I'm free to go a bit decoration crazy. Christmas I remember, as it's my favorite time of the year, but all the other catholic holidays I forget. It's also because supermarkets and stores start selling Easter stuff in February. To me Easter starts when there are chocolate eggs for sale.

So I had to do some last minute decorating as my brother and his girlfriend (hello Themar and Suzanne) will be here for Easter brunch on Sunday. Now our kitchen is almost complete (spot the messy fireplace and oh, there's no door to the loo) so I had to improvise as this is the only pretty place in our home to eat.

More Easter stuff this weekend.

I did use the word floor a lot ...

Hello, I'm back - finally.

It's been a hectic 8 months since we've moved here. This house is really something, each time we start a job it turns into about a thousand other jobs. Like the floor job I did in the sunroom, it turned out to a complete disaster. THE HORRIBLE FLOOR MAN, as he's know in my house, decided to seal the top layer of the concrete floor with polyester. This is quite fantastic if you want to have a cool floor that doesn't show wear, doesn't get dirty and doesn't let anything get in ... white paint included!!

I was rather pleased with the result I showed you in March to discover 8 hours later that the paint came off faster as it did to apply it. I could scrape it off like butter. A lot of products, tears, blood, sweat, money and threatening phone calls to THE HORRIBLE FLOOR MAN later we came to the conclusion that we had to take the perfect top layer of the floor off. I phoned another floor man and he diamond stripped the whole floor. Straight after that I painted the floor again and it stayed put ... for just a little while. After my first floor mopping the floor went sticky and the paint went all yellowy weird. Turns out that the actual concrete floor under the removed top floor didn't dry out completely so that's why it's sticky.

This is the sunroom today. The floor seems perfectly white but don't let the pretty picture fool you because the floor is sticky like hell - if hell is sticky and if hell exists.

I'll have to wait for the concrete to dry and than I'll sand and paint it again. I know for sure it will turn out to be ok but arrrggghh ... all the unnecessary work because of THE HORRIBLE FLOOR MAN!!

Just on the other side of the wall I'm setting up my kitchen.

This is my loo view :o)

Tweet, Tweet, Tweet

I just want to let you know that you can keep track of me over at Twitter. Yes, I've been caught by the bug too. It's like Crocs isn't it? In a couple of months everyone is using Twitter, including my mother in law and we'll be so fed up with it. But for now it's quite fun ;o)
