There’s something so magical about orchards. I one day hope to own an orchard, any orchard just the sake of having one is fine by me.
My Friend Lianne and her husband Jacco own and run an apple processing factory. Jacco van Kessel and his brother are the third in generation to process in “hard fruit”. Their product range mainly consists of Dutch apple varieties such as Elstar, Red Prince, Jonagold, as well as Golden Delicious, Red Boskoop, and pear varieties such as Conference, Doyenne du Comice and Gieser Wildeman and B.A. Lucas.
Bo and I were allowed to pick our own fresh apples in one of their orchards. Do not think; “oh lovely organic apples” they are not. There’s nothing organic about the whole process as that we picked them ourselves. The apples have been sprayed for better preserve.
Picking your own fruit doesn’t necessarily make them organic. If you want organic fruit, go to an organic farmer or grow your own.
Thank you so much Lianne and Jacco for letting us hang out in one of your beautiful orchards.
