My Home in 101 Woonideeën

As prommised, only a day later, the second publication of my home.

I first want to explain that I don’t want my home feautured in magazines, you might call me crazy but it’s just not my thing. I love doing books but I have something against magazines as I run my own on this platform and find it double exposure. So when 101 Woonideeën asked me a few years ago I said NO! And I kept saying no and then all of a sudden I said YES because during those years of no-saying 101 Woonideeën and I grew a relationship, a very fond one.

It’s my favourite Dutch magazine and my favourite editorial staff.

And this is not all, you really have to buy the magazine to get a good scoop. Hopefully I’m allowed to give a bunch away to you my lovely readers when they return from the shops.

Ernie Enkelaar took the pictures and Kim van Rossenberg did the styling. I’m dead chuffed with such a beautiful spread.

Dreamhomes

There is so much going on not worth blogging in my life at the moment. That’s why I’ve kept you stuck at Valentine.

Anyhow, I was blessed this month with two amazing magazine publications of my home. Today I’m going to share the German "20 Private Wohnträume" spread with you.

It’s such a pretty magazine with so many beautiful homes featured. I’m also really gutted about the ample advertisement published in this magazine, it’s all about the homes.

They used my photography for this publication and compared my home to that of Pippi Longstocking … can I get a bigger compliment?

More tomorrow.

Valentine’s Day Pouches and Biscuits

I can’t believe it’s Valentine’s day tomorrow and I haven’t done a thing for it yet. Not that I’m an active Valentine’s day pooper but I do like to mail sweet tokens of love and gratitude to my dearest and nearest.

So I quickly baked lemon, lavender and rose petal biscuits and popped them in these pouches I’ve made.

Trace the xox onto sticky paper and punch a hole with a puncher or perforator to make a circle in the middle of the O as in step 2. Use textile paint for the xox. You can download the instructions for making the pouch and the template of the xox right here.

Here’s the recipe I used for the lemon, rose petal and lavender biscuits:

200gr golden caster sugar
2 tbsp dried lavender
1 tbsp dried rose petals (option)
zest of 2 lemons
245gr plain flour
¼ tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
180gr unsalted butter (chopped in small cubes)
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 egg yolk
½ tsp vanilla extract

  1. Put the sugar, lavender and rose petals in a bowl mix with a spoon. Add the lemon zest and put aside.
  2. In a food processor or blender, add the flour, baking powder and salt, mix. Add the mixture as in 1, mix . Add the butter and mix until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs,
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the lemon juice, egg yolk and vanilla extract. Add the mixture to the rest. Stir and knead until you have a firm dough.
  4. Roll the dough into a cylinder and cover with plastic wrap. Chill in the fridge for one hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 175 °C. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
  6. Remove the dough from the fridge and remove plastic wrap. Dust the surface and the rolling pin with flour and roll out dough in a circular shape about 5mm thick. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes and transfer to the baking tray.
  7. Bake for 10-15 minutes until slightly golden brown. Remove from the oven and allow to cool.
  8. Dust with icing sugar and dried lavender.

Have a lovely Valentine’s Day tomorrow.

One Mug Blueberry Pancakes

Today it’s pancake Tuesday in Britain so I’m going to share with you how to make really simple, fast and sugar free pancakes that are yummy and healthy.

All you need is a mug, the mug is your size. If you want to bake 50 pancakes just add mugs …

The math:
1 mug low fat milk
1 mug plain flour
1 egg
pinch of salt
Feeds 2, double this to feed 4, triple this to feed 6 etc. So milk, flour, egg, salt.

You can add any fruit to make it sweet. Strawberries, apples, raisins, banana … anything will work. Or have them plain.

Use a gravy spoon to scoop the batter (and make small pancakes) and bake them using sunflower oil to keep it healthy.

Happy Pancake Tuesday, how are you eating yours?

ps: my pancakes are rather yellow as the yolk of the eggs of my chickens are really yellow. I used the first egg of the year!!

HEMA Spring / Summer 2013

Last Friday I took my friend, Sofie, to the HEMA spring/summer 2013 press day in Amsterdam. Sofie and I are massive HEMA fans so when I got the e-mail invite in my inbox I made a happy dance.

The HEMA is a very Dutch department store, being around for ages and evolving throughout the years, with fashionable home wares, beautiful food, clothes, make-up, everything you need for your newborn. It’s just one perfect department store and to my opinion our nation’s pride.

This was one of the best, happiest and friendliest press days I’ve had the pleasure to attend. It was mellow, the organization was super friendly and everything was spread out so that you really could soak in the beautiful spring atmosphere.

The new collection is going to be smashing! Oh did Sofie and I object that we couldn’t have a pre-shop. We wanted to take every single piece of clothing and all the amazing new stationary home with us. There are so many good items coming for garden parties and lazy summer days. Even the new nail polish collection got me buzzing and went home with beautiful coral nails that matched my outfit.

Thank you HEMA for a lovely day.

The Office – the one with the desk

Tomorrow we are going to film how I paint my living room floor white. I’ll make sure I get that clip from the production company to display on my blog as it’s the number one question in my e-mail inbox. So after the weekend I can start painting the windows, doors and walls. And after that I can start to move furniture in!!!

I of course can’t wait to move around furniture so I’ve started to move offices instead, as my current office is getting too small. I’m moving to the dining room as the dining room will be in the living room (I know it’s complicated) I’ve started with installing a desk area where once used to be a plate wall.

I used the same table and the same IKEA wall ledges but replaced the plates with different items. BYE stands for "Boris-Yvonne-Eijkenduijn", we think that’s rather cute.

I’ve used a Jieldé lamp to match the same brand’s ceiling lamp.

How to make jar cosies.

So far we still use the room as a dining room. I now have to wait for the piano to move out and all the china. I’ll use the cabinets to store books, stationary, files and folders. The dining table will function as a perfect table for meetings and such.

As I’m writing this post I sit happily behind my new desk in my new spot.

Have a lovely weekend xox
