The First Signs of Christmas

Tomorrow will be my 38th birthday and as I found out that Bo didn’t plan any work we’ve decided to drive up to England to do some Christmas shopping. Now what’s a better Birthday gift for me? Before I leave I want to show you the one room that’s Christmas proof.

I don’t believe in a one coloured Christmas, I decorate according to the colours I use in my home. This article is in German but if you put it in Google translate you’ll get to know about the multi-coloured trend that’s going on right now. Well I’ve been multi-coloured my whole life, literally that is.

I mix vintage with homespun. I’ve made the paper garlands myself and tied a Christmas tree on the Jag, like everyone does. It’s just so funny …

I stuff the room with many coloured candles and lit them when it’s dark. I place pink hyacinths in cups for the lovely flowers and the lovely smell.

The pink wire basket is from Ferm Living and my latest treasure, it’s so beautiful!!

And I dress to match the room. Boy I wish it was Christmas all year round.

See you in a couple of days xox

Paper Candle Houses

Now that the living room is turned into ground zero we’ve moved to the dining room. The three of us spend our evenings and weekends in there and we don’t really miss a sofa or a comfy chair as we are quite the table people.

I love a good table where I can sit at and make stuff while I eat, drink and chat to Boris and my friends. There will definitely be a big table in the new living room.

Over the weekend (at the table) I’ve made these houses for you to download.

Download the templates and print them on 220-250 grams A4 sized paper. Cut out the templates and fold and glue where needs folding and gluing (instructions can be found on the template). Place a tea light in them and ta-da. Please be careful with paper and fire, I can not be held responsible for when your paper house burns down or your own house.

And although Bo and I are table people, Boo is sometimes a table cat preferable at dinner time. But mostly she likes a comfortable chair that just fits her.

I’d love to see your paper houses so don’t forget to ping or link back. Have fun!

Living Room Under Construction

And now that the boot room is all happy and white we’re cracking on to the largest room on the ground floor and that’s the living room. This is the bare living room today. I don’t mind seeing the bones of a room before covering it up and making it pretty.

This room once used to be two rooms but one of the previous owners made it to one room and took the old fireplaces out and placed a new one in the centre of the two rooms, making it the heart of the room. Although the fireplace isn’t original and a bit plump we are going to leave the layout of the room for what it is as we like the thought of having a fire going while we eat, read, watch TV, work, entertain and lounge.

This will be the eating part of the room and the top picture will be the seating part of the room. The kitchen is behind the door in the back.

It may look like chaos but it’s not as we go incredible fast. All the old plaster, beams, crappy woodwork etc. are stripped. During the week Bo and I pulled all the cables through for the new electricity and today Bo connected all the new sockets. We cheered loudly by each tested socket that worked. That’s so exciting, pulling cables, plugging it into the mainframe and by magic everything works. Tomorrow we are going to start on the ceiling as it’s going to be lowered a wee bit, after that we’ll have to put a new floor in as this one is covered in glue.

And in a month’s time the magical plaster people will walk out leaving it slick and clean. After that it’s painting, bookcase making and decorating!!

I’ve been thinking about colours, Farrow & Ball’s Blue Gray or Light Blue instead … tiles, what sort of tiles for the fire place? I love this process, I love finding furniture and thinking cushion fabrics. I don’t mind all the mess and dust as I know it’s for a good cause.

Have a wonderful weekend, I’ll be spending mine in the above room.

Rose Wreath

Was the weather as lovely at your end as it was at my end today?

I did a bit of a crazy winter garden prep and now all my muscles ache. I’m like that, I always want to get the job done.

Cutting, digging, veggie plot emptying, bulb planting and rose pruning all in one day – front and back. The garden is ready for it’s winter sleep.

I’m always trying to make the most out of my autumn/winter garden as I find that I have a true summer garden. I try to find objects that add some fun to the bleak emptiness and the flowerless, beeless, butterflyless garden. So when I saw the simple wreaths in the recent Martha Stewart Living I decided to make my own rose wreath.

I’m really happy with the simple result it gives. It’s just a bunch of branches turned round and a simple pink ribbon adds some glee. I love the wildness of it, how roses should be.

Don’t hang it on a door as it will get you tangled up. I got tangled up so many times making the wreath as it got stuck to me fleece and in my hair.
